Committee Overview

DPSIMUN 2026 presents the African Union, one continent with a shared destiny! With conflict, unity, and development on the line, delegates will take on the challenges shaping Africa’s future, with the continent’s own voice leading the way.

Officially launched in 2002 as the successor to the OAU, the African Union is a continental body composed of 55 member states. The AU aims to promote cooperation, elevate economic growth, and foster continental integration.

Guided by "Engineering Stability in an Age of Volatility," delegates will work towards the AU's overarching vision: "An Integrated, Prosperous and Peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens."

MEET THE CHAIRS

Emerald Nana Akua Anane-Agyemang

Hello everyone, My name is Emerald Agyemang, and I’m super excited to be your chair for the African Union committee at DPSIMUN-26 Having experienced MUN from the delegate side, I’m excited to now be leading the committee and seeing everything from a different perspective. My biggest hope for this committee is that you leave with more than just an award. I want you to challenge yourselves, build your confidence, learn from one another, and genuinely enjoy the experience. The AU gives us so much room for meaningful discussion, so I’m expecting you all to bring your perspectives and represent your countries to the best of your ability. I also want our committee to be a space where everyone feels comfortable contributing. Debate can get intense, but remember that we’re all here to learn, so keep things respectful and diplomatic at all times. Please make sure you do your research beforehand. Knowing your country's stance will make it much easier to contribute effectively and respond when the room gets heated. Most importantly, don't be afraid to involve yourself . Whether you're a first-time delegate or you've done MUN several times, this is your chance to step outside your comfort zone. I can’t wait to meet you all and see what you bring to the AU committee!

"Respected Delegates, My name is Yvonne Gyapong, and I'm pleased to be your co-chair alongside chair, Emerald Agyemang, for the African Union committee at this year's DPSI MUN. The African Union committee offers an opportunity to explore vital issues in global diplomacy and participate in meaningful debates. Throughout the conference, you will be required to research your assigned country's policies, investigate the topics before the conference, and deliver structured speeches during moderated sessions to voice your perspective and persuade other countries. You will also be expected to collaborate with other delegates to build alliances and draft viable solutions to the issues before you. I urge you to challenge yourselves and your critical thinking skills. Be concise, remain calm and clear, listen actively to other members of the committee, and be thoroughly equipped before each conference because a good delegate is a prepared one.
