Security Council

Committee Overview

DPSIMUN 2026 introduces the Security Council, the most powerful and high-stakes committee of the UN! With global peace and security on the line, delegates will face crises, negotiate under pressure, and make decisions that could change the course of history.

The UNSC bears primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Comprising 5 permanent veto-bearing members and 10 elected non-permanent members, its resolutions carry binding legal authority.

Guided by "Radical Resilience: Engineering Stability in the Age of Volatility," delegates must adapt Council mechanisms to manage evolving armed conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, and technological shifts.

Topics:
  1. Addressing Regional Escalation and the Threat to International Peace in the Middle East
    • Preventing further escalation between Israel and Iran
    • Protecting civilians and critical infrastructure during regional conflict
    • Maritime security in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz
    • Diplomacy in preventing wider regional war
  2. Responding to the Humanitarian and Security Crisis in Sudan
    • Protection of civilians and humanitarian access
    • Preventing regional spillover and instability
    • Ceasefire negotiations and peacekeeping efforts
    • Accountability for violations of international humanitarian law
