DPSIMUN 2026 introduces the United Nations Environment Programme, the committee racing against time! With climate action, conservation, and the future of the planet on the line, delegates will negotiate for a world that can’t afford to wait.
Established following the 1972 Stockholm Conference, UNEP has led global environmental governance across 193 member states for over five decades. It coordinates international efforts through scientific research and development.
In line with "Radical Resilience: Engineering Stability in the Age of Volatility," UNEP provides a platform to explore how scientific innovation and sustainable policies can improve environmental resilience in an unpredictable world.

MEET THE CHAIRS

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). As your Chair, I look forward to seeing thoughtful debate, meaningful diplomacy, and creative solutions throughout the committee. UNEP gives us the opportunity to discuss some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, and I encourage every delegate to come prepared, participate actively, and be open to different perspectives. I hope this committee challenges you to think critically, collaborate effectively, and grow as a delegate while enjoying the MUN experience. I wish you all the best and look forward to an engaging and memorable committee.

"Hello everyone, I'm Shachi Sangai, a student at Delhi Private School International, and I'll be serving as the Vice Chair for this year's UN Environment Programme committee. While this will be my first time vice chairing, I've had the privilege of participating as a delegate in four prior MUN conferences, which shaped my understanding of what good diplomacy actually requires. UNEP holds a unique place within the UN system, responsible for protecting the planet's environmental future, but only through cooperation and consensus rather than binding authority. I'd encourage each of you to come prepared with strong research on your country's stance, while staying open to collaboration, since the strongest resolutions come from delegates willing to listen and negotiate rather than hold their ground alone. Beyond the debate, I genuinely hope you enjoy this conference, the conversations, compromises, and connections you make along the way. I'd love for you to leave with a better understanding of environmental governance, along with good memories and maybe a few new friends too. Looking forward to meeting you all in committee!"
